#ChessMatters
K.I.N.G. Chess League was the first member of the K.I.N.G. Houston family of academic and sports programs. Unique instructional courses start at just 4 years of age, and all skill levels are welcome. During each session participants learn the game's history, pieces, values, proper movements, strategies, and a general level of mastery.
Our aim is not only to develop a skilled chess player, but more importantly to create cognitive exercises and activities that will enhance critical thinking skills. Increasing these skills builds character, increases patience, and promotes a healthy self-esteem to help shape tomorrow's leaders. Our program also includes USCF rated and unrated tournaments, unique workbooks and activities, and age appropriate exams to graduate each participant to their next level of mastery. The takeaway is that chess, whether played academically or leisurely has many cognitive benefits.
